Sustainable engineering

Our deep-rooted commitment to sustainable engineering has seen us significantly change key functions within our business over the last number of years. Led by our internal Sustainability Champion, we’ve invested in a wide range of initiatives to deliver more sustainable manufacturing and reduce our carbon footprint.

Major Sustainability Projects

Reducing our carbon footprint

A huge volume of completed and ongoing projects aimed at reducing our impact on the environment, backed by significant capital investment.

  • Energy efficient curing oven

A new, energy efficient oven stationed 20-feet off the ground. As the hot air rises, it is effectively trapped within the oven, reducing convection losses. The oven also features improved insulation, reducing losses through radiation and conduction, and increased burner efficiency and control.

  • Elimination of galvanised materials

Our unique painting process has eliminated the need for galvanised materials. The process provides equivalent corrosion protection at a fraction of the environmental impact.

  • Building energy monitoring system

An ongoing, €50,000 project. On completion, the system will facilitate full monitoring of all energy usage across our facility. A full 360-view, allowing greater insights and corrective actions.

  • Solar panel
    installation

Photovoltaic solar panel installation with capacity to generate up to 367kWp of green energy.

  • LED lighting installation & upgrades

Installation of LED lighting in the offices, canteens, production areas, and external areas. We’ve also introduced automatic lighting controls in low occupancy areas.

  • Transition to fibre laser technology

Introduction of new fibre laser technology in place of our previous CO2 laser. This new technology is more efficient, produces less pollutants, and captures air pollutants more efficiently.

  • Sustainable
    vehicles

EV charging station, battery powered electric forklifts to replace older LPG forklifts, and well-adopted bike-to-work scheme.

  • Waste
    reduction

Reduction in plastic wrapping and cardboard, and the introduction of reusable steel pallets in place of timber pallets. The use of steel, returnable pallets for external product transport has removed 40 single pallets per week.

Protecting our environment

Sustainability Initiatives

In addition to our major sustainability projects, we also have a number of other key initiatives helping us to deliver more sustainable manufacturing.

  • Appointment of our Sustainability Champion
  • More efficient compressor
  • Use of battery powered tools where possible
  • Reduction in water usage
  • Reduction of chemical usage in paint line pre-treatment
  • Introduction of efficient shot blasting in place of grinding and buffing
  • Reduction in waste powder paint
  • Increase in automation versus manual labour
  • Trial of steel thickness reduction
  • Upgrade of welding equipment to more efficient inverter-based technology

This isn’t a check-box
exercise for us.

We’ve already made huge changes to our business, and we’re just getting started. Our commitment to improved environmental and sustainability practices is long-term and ongoing.
